Four things are helpful, etc. <b>What four things are helpful?</b> Four situations: living in a suitable region, relying on true persons, being rightly resolved in oneself, and past merit. <b>What four things should be developed?</b> The four kinds of mindfulness meditation. A mendicant meditates by observing an aspect of the body—keen, aware, and mindful, rid of covetousness and displeasure for the world. They meditate observing an aspect of feelings … mind … principles—keen, aware, and mindful, rid of covetousness and displeasure for the world. <b>What four things should be completely understood?</b> Four foods: edible food, whether solid or subtle; contact is the second, mental intention the third, and consciousness the fourth.
