The morning alms round
Every morning monks walk their alms round past people’s homes. Neighbours prepare rice and food in front of the house, take off their shoes, place the food in the bowls with respect, then sit with palms joined to receive a blessing. Giving alms is generosity you can practise every day, not only on special days: it gives the monks their food for the day and lets the giver start the day with a light, generous heart.
